Warhammer Online Developing New Race: The Skaven [Warhammer Online]

Mythic Entertainment has released details on a new playable race currently in development for Warhammer Online. The Skaven are a race and rat-human hybrids who look as vicious as the name sounds.

Skavens will come in four classes, the Warlock Engineer, Gutter Runner, Rat Ogre, and Packmaster. The Engineer is a support unit best suited to a stationary battle area. The Runner is an espionage unit who will remain in the shadows. The Ogre's purpose is to creat as much chaos and confusion for the enemy as possible, and the Packmaster will act as support for the Ogre.

Vicious, nasty, and not at all what an enemy wants to see coming their way. Are you looking forward to The Skaven?

With all of the excitement surrounding Game Update 1.3.4 the WAR Blogging Community has been a-Twitter (ba-dum-pah) talking about all of the changes. The Mythic Community team wanted to take a moment to recognize some of our veteran bloggers and to welcome some new faces to the crowd!

Everyone's favorite Blogging/Jogging Dwarf, Gaarawarr, has been hard at work churning out guides for the all new Weekend Warfronts and most recently has posted a stunning visual guide for the top tier Sovereign Armor sets!Werit has been hard at work, filming away and keeping everyone up to date on what's happening in WAR each week with his News From the Front!ShadowWAR's Andrew is happy to see many new and returning players on the field of battle. He has also joined the ranks of our blogging community who posts some awesome Videos from our PTS events!Bootae brings us his across-the-pond perspective on naked city sieges and why he feels like there are too many city sieges happening on the EU Server Karak Norn. Not to worry Bootae, 1.3.5 is on the way and it will change the way we look at cities forever.Good Ole Grimnir, at times one of our most critical bloggers, waxes philisophical about the middle tier game experience as he ponders the impact of zones like the Land of the Dead on Tiers 2 and 3. Mykiel is, well Mykiel, with his off the charts live streaming schedule and more "mature themed" podcast. While he definitely isn't kiddie appropriate, those of you looking for a more rough edges community experience will get a kick out of Mike's commentary each week.As for new faces in the WAR blogging community, well, we've got quite a list!
Tyanon over at backseatdev has stepped up to the plate and is swinging for the fences with his thoughts on the all new RvR Insignia Currency.Keagen is on vacation this week, but is blogging from the perspective of a Magus and giving some great advice on how to gear up your disk dwelling denzien of Chaos!i heart Gorfang's Arisechicken is forming spontaneous lines all over The Inevitable City while still making time to show off their adorable Nurgling! Blog the Witch has a completely healthy obsession with all things Witch Elf. "Return of the Legends" Celebration Begins! [Dark Age of Camelot]

BioWare Mythic has summoned all former Ultima Online, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning and Dark Age of Camelot players to join the Return of the Legends Re-Enlistment Celebration, beginning today, September 28. Returning legends will receive a hero's welcome with free game time, bonuses, and events for the former players returning to the lands of Britannia, The Old World and Camelot.

Former players will have full access to all of their characters during the re-enlistment celebration and free re-evaluation period.

Grab Bag No. 22 - Game Update 1.3.2

Welcome to Grab Bag Number 22, which focuses on the upcoming 1.3.2 patch content (and has a few other tidbits thrown in for flavor). As always, thank you to the WAR Community on the Official Forums for providing these questions—we couldn’t do this without you! Read on for all the questions and answers!

Q. With the removal of Forts from the T4 campaign, how are new players (or even existing players) supposed to gain Conqueror Gear?   Is Conqueror Gear only going to be available through RvR Tokens and Land of the Dead?  Is it available via the new Keep system?  If it is, how does that affect Annihilator gear?  Also, do have any info on the how we will obtain the items that were in the Purple and Blue bags from Fort takes and defenses?  They had some really good items!

A. The Fortress loot has now been moved to Keeps.  In game update 1.3.2, we’re introducing the Keep difficulty system where a keep will be rated on how difficult it will be to defend/attack based on the Keep’s rank and how many attackers and/or defenders there are.  The Keeps with the highest difficulty rating will drop the Fortress and Conqueror gear.

Q. When in a City Siege, how do you communicate with players in just your city siege instance? Example: If I'm in Aldorf instance #5069, how do I just talk to everyone in Aldorf #5069 in-game?

A. Right now, the best way is to use warband chat and/or to use the region chat with what instance you’re in.  You can also create a private channel for your instance by typing /channeljoin [channel name], and ask everyone to join (which they can do by typing the same thing once the channel is created). That’s something we want to simplify, of course, so look for an improved method in a future version.

Q. Now that the Warlord set is attainable for those of us on the underdog side, I have a question specific to the Choppa set. The six-piece Warlord set grants an ability called "Corrosion".  This would obviously be very useful.  However, I want to know if this ability will STACK with our Can't Stop da Chop, which is one of our main attacks.

A. No, they do not stack. Only the effect with the highest value will be counted.

Q. With the new apprentice system coming up, will the Collar of Servitude still have use in the game? Or will the Recruit-a-Friend program be reevaluated?

A. The Collar of Servitude (which we have renamed to the Lash of Servitude) and the Rod of Service will now act a little differently.  They will continue to give the Exp/Renown bonus, however instead of bolstering an ally, the item will act as a group summon.  This ability is on a 2-hour cooldown.

Q. Are we ever going to see RvR weapons and accessories that are as strong as their PvE counterparts?

A. This has been in discussion lately, and we are attempting to figure out the best way to fit improvements like these into the game.  As it stands now, we do not have any finalized plans, but it’s still on the table.

Q. What are your plans, moving forward, for career balancing between Order and Destruction?

A. As always, our plans are to continue to work on bringing the Realms into a more balanced state.  This patch is one more step in our ongoing balance work.

Q. Are DoK/WP who actually use their melee heals ever going to see their channeled heal moved into the mastery line? If not, why?

A. We've discussed this internally in the past and we're generally amenable to the idea, but we have not yet made any finalized decisions.

Q. With no Fortresses to bar the way to the capital cities, are there any plans to help the underdog Realm?

A. Yep—we’ve been thinking about this subject quite a lot.  We’re still finalizing the details and arguing the best way to help the underdog Realm without punishing players for winning.  It’s a complicated issue, but we’re working on it.


Q. The BG Dark Protector is a poor mirror to Oathfriend. Are their plans to improve it before 1.3.2 goes live? If not, why?

A. Adding Dark Protector is a single step towards achieving career balance, and is obviously not an entire solution in and of itself.  We plan to continue working on the Black Guard, as well as all other careers, in future patches.

Q. Are we ever going to see a buff to Experience gained while grouping, to encourage more grouping and less soloing?

A. As a social game, we always want to encourage players to group up and work together.  We’ve taken steps to help people get together already, for example the introduction of summoning stones, and we continue to work on improving and encouraging the social nature of WAR. That being said, yes we are discussing ways that we can improve the group experience; however, changing group Exp/Renown/Influence generation has a fairly broad effect on our game. As such we’re approaching it with caution.

Q. Why did WE finishers not receive a buff at the same time you made their kisses mirror WH bullets?

A. We began tackling the balance issues between Witch Hunters and Witch Elves with the Kisses.  As with all balance changes, further work will be an on-going concern for the C&C team.

Q. Are the 'Spoils of War' for enemy classes in game?  I mean I've killed over a thousand of pretty much every enemy career, and haven't seen any of these 'Spoils' drop for any of the careers.  Are they in game?  Do they exist?  I don't know anyone that have any of these unlocked!  Tell me!  I must know!

A. There is a bug in our tracker for this and we have our teams actively working on a solution to ensure that players can receive the drop and complete the unlock.  Hopefully the fix will be forthcoming in an imminent patch.  We know it can be frustrating to not be able to complete something.
Q. What are the 'Cards' unlocks?  You know where you have the items, titles, and Tactics unlocked in the Tome there is also a tab that says 'Cards'.  What are these cards!?!

A. ‘Cards’ is a system that we wanted to do at launch, so we put in a spot for them, but did not have time to complete the design and implementation of.  It was a reward system that would tie into an in-game card game.  At this point, it is on our back burner of things we’d like to do, but other items have our priority at the moment.

When 1.3.2 goes live, you’ll be able to easily view a Keep’s difficulty (which is different than Rank!). Simply look for tiny gold stars beneath the Keep on your World Map—the number of stars indicate the Keep’s difficulty level, from 1 (easiest) to 5 (most difficult). The greater the difficulty of a Keep, which is based upon the number of defenders, the better your reward will be for defending it, or taking it over from your enemies.

Well, it's been about a month now and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning's Dwarven Slayer class has quickly become one of the more popular order classes. Everywhere you go, you can find a sea of red mohawks attacking anything in their area that's Destruction. It's a fun class to play in PvE, but you may be wondering how well you'd do in RvR, especially if that's not really your thing. We here at Ten Ton Hammer feel your pain, for we all started out as PvE folks too once, and to help you get into the groove of what a Slayer was really meant for, we bring you Ten Ton Hammer's Secrets to Ultimate Pwnage - The Slayer!

As a Slayer, you're part of an elite fraternity. No, not the cool assassin's guild out of Wanted, but the fraternity of emo Dwarves (two words you'd never thought you'd see next to each other). You're known for charging into battle without wearing armor, just pants (thank Myrmidia), sporting a robust mohawk with wild red dyed hair that stands straight up from the application of pig fat, full body tattoos, and shouting out phrases such as "Free Me!" and "The Shame!", which really just makes you a buzzkill for the after battle celebrations.

Dev Diary: Thanquol's Incursion RvR Dungeon [Warhammer Online]

Warhammer Online's RvR and Content Designer Keaven Freeman just posted a lengthy developer's diary on the upcoming Thanquol’s Incursion dungeon that will be available in Tier 4 for players of Renown Rank 65 and above. The 24 v. 24 Skaven-themed instance is all about RvR, but there will be three bosses around to get in your way.

The bosses are the Warlock Engineer Skeetk, Throt the Unclean, and Thanquol with his Boneripper construct. The new "Win-o-Meter" UI element will show which realm is winning during a boss fight. Players can get their first look at this dungeon tomorrow, Oct. 20, at 8 p.m. EDT on the Warpstone Public Test server.

WAR's New Producer Letter Details Verminous Horde [Warhammer Online]

The latest installment of Warhammer Online's Letter from the Producer is out and brings with it many details about patch 1.4 and The Verminous Horde RvR packs.

Mythic Entertainment previously announced the upcoming playable race, The Skaven. Patch 1.4 will include an entirely revamped ORvR zone capture mechanic, the Skaven dungeon Thanquol's Incursion, and controllable Skaven classes that players can use in ORvR once the dungeon has been conquered. Full patch notes are available on Warhammer Online's official site.

Along with the free content included in the patch, players can also purchase the Progression and and Personality RvR packs for even more new content, including mounts, vanity pets, accelerated leveling, and more! Each pack costs $10 or you can get both for $15 through the EA Store.

The Verminous Horde is Coming on Nov. 18 [Warhammer Online]

Mythic just announced that "The Verminous Horde" RvR packs and Game Update 1.4 will launch in Warhammer Online on Nov. 18. The patch is free, but the pair of RvR packs will be available in the EA Store for $10 each or $15 for both.

The most recent producer's letter provides all sorts of details on the upcoming patch and RvR packs. In addition to the playable Skaven race, Game Update 1.4 will include an entirely revamped ORvR zone capture mechanic and the Skaven dungeon Thanquol's Incursion. The Progression and and Personality RvR packs offer mounts, vanity pets, accelerated leveling and more.
